Alex Morgan has confirmed that he will be driving the Vuković Motorsport Renault Mégane at the final TCR UK race meeting of the 2018 season at Donington Park this weekend.
Morgan competed at Brands Hatch in the championship’s third event back in June and the 31-year old expressed an interest in contesting at least one more event in the series. With development work on the car continuing throughout the season – including a recent successful test at Hockenheim – the London-based Welshman feels that Donington Park would provide the ideal opportunity to gauge the Mégane’s progress.
The car has contested a number of rounds of the ADAC TCR Germany series during 2018, with the Sachsenring event seeing Alex just 0.664 seconds slower than the fastest lap time in Q1. The Renault’s entry at Donington, like its maiden appearance at Brands Hatch, is part of its continuing test and development programme ahead of a 2019 campaign that has yet to be finalized.
Alex Morgan commented: “It’s been fantastic to be a part of developing a car like the Mégane TCR and to watch it evolve over the months. We’ve chopped and changed a little in terms of the championships we’ve entered, but thanks to an intensive few months of work we’ve seen lap times come down from being three seconds a lap off the pace at Oschersleben to just 0.6 seconds a lap in Q1 at the Sachsenring.
“We’ve known for a long time that the pace was there and so it’ll be good to hopefully show that at Donington this weekend. I know the circuit and I’ve gone well there in the past and so a good result is more than possible. It’ll be a great way of showing what the car and the team are capable of and confirm that what we’ve been doing this year has paid off.”
